Make Some Noise for Audiodax

Audiodax proved themselves worthy of some serious accolades with their first effort "The Annexation". And over the past few months, people all over the country have been discovering their unique, upbeat approach to the realm of electronic pop-hop music. Having claimed several top 10 spots on the Hype Machine as well as having performed on numerous college campuses (including a memorable performance in my very own backyard at Miami University) this September--Audiodax is full steam ahead.  Their newest single "Make Some Noise" is sure to find itself on your iTunes repeat.

Audiodax plays a backyard show for KE and SAE at Miami University(OH).

Ghostland Observatory- Midnight Voyage

I distinctly remember telling my girlfriend that this guy looked like a male Pocahontas and that I wasn't all that impressed with Ghostland Observatory as a whole. But I digress, I recently came across the song "Midnight Voyage" and have decided it is a jam worth sharing. Ok, maybe I was wrong about them but I'll never admit it.

37 Posters

Whoever came up with the idea for these awesome posters is a genius. Each poster features a meaningful symbol from the movie that is filled with all the best quotes. I don't know about you, but I have an awful time remembering quotes and I always miss out at opportunities to use them in conversation.

Oak Street Bootmakers

New to the now saturated boat shoe scene is Oak Streeet Bootmakers with another take on the American classic. Oak Street designs their collection in Chicago and produces them in Maine because everyone knows that's where all boat shoes come from. These kicks definitely have some character but come with a hefty price tag @220/pair.

Also, the Persol 714--designed by Steve McQueen and seen in the classic "The Thomas Crown Affair" was just re-released.  Figured I'd mention it since these shades have more character than those plastic neon sunglasses you won at Discovery Zone.

Seabreacher X

A few weeks ago Eli mentioned that he was kayaking in shark infested waters off the coast of California. It just so happens that today I received word that the predator lurking around his vessel was not a real shark. It was the Seabreacher X. The latest watercraft innovation from Innespace Productions. Not only does it look like a shark but it swims like one with top speeds of 50 mph powered by a 266 HP motor, ability to dive under the surface and jump above the surface. I used to want my dad to get us a jetski but I just realized those are so limiting.

Lupe Fiasco- Go to Sleep

Rumored to be from Lupe's upcoming album Food and Liquor II. Listening to this track it is clear Lupe is back and poised to repeat the success of The Cool. Check out "Go to Sleep" below.

Playlist: Back to School

Alright I just finished putting together a nice little playlist for the return to the good life at college. These are all upbeat tunes for the party atmosphere so be sure to listen to the entire thing. Don't be afraid to use this; guaranteed to blow some people's minds. I can't wait to get back to school...only a few days now.

This guy has the right idea...

Sun Faded Utility Shirt

A new arrival at J.Crew, this faded utility shit looks bomb. $98.

Neon Hitch- Drop it like it's Hot (Snoop Dogg vs. Alina Orlova)

The life story of English singer/songwriter Neon Hitch (which apparently is her real name) is pretty amazing. As a child she traveled on a bus as a street performer and trapeze artist before running away to India for a few years. Finally took up signing and opened for several artists before 1 day when she was signed to Warner Bros. This was always one of my favorite songs to beat box along to...Snoooooooooopp.

Empire of the Sun- Standing on the Shore

I wasn't there, but I heard Empire of the Sun's Lolla set was incredible...

Wale- Black and Gold (Prod. by DJ Omega)

Wale's newest mixtape More about Nothing comes out tomorrow. Building off his Seinfeld-themed debut mixtape, the newest installment is produced by DJ Omega. The thing I like about Wale and his lyrics is that he calls it like he sees it. After all, what is hip hop? These days, radio friendly hip hop is just a collection of rhyming words that have little meaning brought together with a catchy beat... the likes of Wale, Kid Cudi, Nas, and Lupe challenge that notion. Let's hope this mixtape delivers.

Pretty Lights- Spilling Over Every Side

The newest EP from Pretty Lights for 2010, Spilling Over Every Side, is now available for download at their website. Haven't had a chance to get a good listen yet, but this one has 6 fresh tracks, each at least 5 minutes long. What Derek Smith had to say about it:

"I really tried to push my style with this EP and explore several different genres, sometimes within the same song.  The songs are long and there are a lot of parts... I guess, because thats what I want to hear... fresh, intricate, beats that attempt to communicate ideas or tell a story somehow."

Bell and Ross Vintage Collection

The Bell and Ross Vintage collection is based on the utilitarian watches used by pilots during the inception (sick movie) of aviation when instrument panels were only written about in sci-fi books. I particularly think the over-sized numbers are a good touch. Obviously they've given the watch band to a puppy to gnaw on, but hey, the economy is tough right now.

SHARKZ

So, I was sea kayaking far off the coast of Malibu a few weekends ago and went by a boat and graciously waved hello. The captain of the vessel then looked at me (soaking wet from just dipping in the water) and said "I hope you don't plan on swimming anymore, they have Great White cages out here." I thought he was trying to scare me, so when I got home I decided to look it up. Turns out two UCLA students were eaten right out of their sea kayak a few years back. Perfect. Regardless, these pictures are pretty sick.

Additional sea life photos can be found on Wayne Levin's website.

Blast From the Past

Eddie Hazel put the Funk in P-funk. This guitar solo rips. Light one up, close your eyes, and kick it back to 1983 with this gem.

The Hood Internet- Trillwave

The Hood Internet are some heavy hitters in the mash-up scene. Their newest mash tape goodness comes in the form of Trillwave, which joins together hip-hop, electronic, and indie sounds to create an endless summer jam. Girl Talk is overrated.

Brothertiger- Feel

John Jagos is an Ohio University student who, under the name Brothertiger, experiments with his own blend of downtempo chill/dance. His single "Feel" might as well be a bonus track on a Delorean album with his spacey synths, reverberated guitar riffs, and echoing vocals.

Freelance Whales- Generator ^ Second Floor

Freelance Whales' debut LP Weathervanes is available now. "Generator ^ Second Floor" demonstrates their folky foot tapping tendencies. Their lead singer is reminiscent of other soft spoken singer/songwriters such as Sufjan Stevens only charged with a little more energy, similar to (the late band) The Format's lead singer Nate Ruess.

The Social Network Trailer

In 2003, Harvard University student Mark Zuckerberg created Facebook. "The Social Network" is the story of how it came in to existence.

Today the first full length trailer has been released and it looks amazing. Definitely on my list of movies to see.

The music for this trailer is just as impressive, an excellent cover of Radiohead's "Creep" by the Belgium girls choir, Scala which I can't stop listening to.

Jesse Eisenberg plays Mark Zuckerberg (and I'm guessing they're both Jewish) with Justin Timberlake in a lead role as a friend of Mark's.

How to Booze

Written by two NYC bartenders who have seen their fair share of uninformed drunks. This book , available conveniently at Amazon.com for the low price of $10, is for those of you who claim to know "how to booze" , but lack the knowledge and sophistication of a refined gentleman who knows what to order and when. Not only that, but the book also offers life lessons learned from years behind the bar.

Restrepo Documentary

Restrepo follows a U.S. Army platoon for an entire year in the Korengal Valley, known as one of the most dangerous places in the world.  I am very curious as to what modern war in Afghanistan is really like so I really want to see this.

Gitman Vintage Sport Shirts

These button downs are so fresh..from their website:

"Gitman Vintage is an American heritage sport-shirt and neckwear line that pays tribute to its past, but with a distinct difference. While continuing to honor the importance of a finely crafted button-down oxford and the indispensable pinpoint, the design team at Gitman dusted off old line books to curate an authentic interpretation of the past by selectively appropriating their favorite fabrics and having them remade"
